>Pope Says Condoms Won’t Cure AIDS

>What a wise, if not popular, statement the Pope made while traveling in Africa.
What science knows but the public would like to forget is that AIDS is spread by sexually transmitted means. Condoms in the hands of people without regard to other health standards cannot solve the HIV virus problem.

Education is the answer — and abstinance should be the message. At least that’s what the Pope believes, and what most world church leaders will tell you. David Lewis of Reuters has written that this is Pope Benedict’s first visit to Africa as Pope and cites some Papal advice for that area of the world. He talks about seeking peace, ending corruption, AIDS, and condoms. Pope Benedict is not only wise, but a practical man as well.

The Commerce Department reported Tuesday that housing construction surged 22.2 percent in February to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 583,000 units. Even with the big gain, which took economists by surprise, construction activity is 47.3 percent below the level of a year ago as the housing sector remains mired in its worst slump in decades.
