In Finland the title of this blog means city, except it is spelled Kaupunki.
I hope that we can develop a Finnish audience and participation on this blog, because that’s what was intended.
Last I heard, the best high tech company in the world, conceived and located in the beautiful land of Finland, Nokia, was laying off some people.
Can someone comment below and tell me about it.
Also, I would like emails from real Finns in English, with facts and figures on any subject they would like to expound on, and that means almost anything in good taste. There are real Finns all over the world — in Canada, America, South America, Europe, Russia, and especially in Finland. Send it with Subject “Cowpunki” to
Thanks, Don White
>Should Spanish Replace English As America’s Official Language?
Here’s Barak Obama talking about what our school children learn: “But understand this… you need to make sure your child can speak Spanish!” – Barack Hussein Obama
Twelve to twenty million illegal aliens blatantly violated our laws when they came to the United States illegally. They take jobs away from hard-working Americans and legal immigrants who played by the rules and waited in line to have a chance at living the American Dream!
And what’s Barack Hussein Obama’s solution to the problem of millions of illegal aliens who REFUSE to learn our language or assimilate into our culture?
In his own words:
“Understand this… you need to make sure your child can speak Spanish!”
“Make sure your child can speak Spanish…” Excuse me? You sure you want to be the president of the United States of America?
When former-presidential candidate Mitt Romney heard this he smiled and responded that learning to speak languages is a good thing, but learning math and science is far more important; and that’s what Obama should be concentrating his efforts on, not on languages.
Did you know that the tiny country of Finland scored highest in math and sciences for school children–even higher than the U.S.? What about the U.S.? We scored way, way down on the list. Can you imagine that? Our school children are not being taught math and sciences–at least what they are being taught is not good enough to compete with even Finland, a country of only 5 million people.
Did you also know that it’s not America where the Internet began that is the most “wired” nation on earth (talking about cell phones and wi-fi), it’s Finland, home of Nokia, the giant phone maker? Something like 97 percent of the Finns have cell phones and a high percentage have wi-fi (meaning they can connect anywhere in the world to the Web). Meaning Finns, or Suomalinen as they call themselves in Finland, are likely far more literate than Americans.
