Here’s The Latest on The Government Shutdown From NY Times.

President Obama and Speaker John A. Boehner face challenges from adversaries as well as their own followers.

Obama Meeting Fails to End Stalemate Over Federal Budget

President Obama and Congressional leaders said that late-night bargaining did not produce a breakthrough to avert a shutdown, but agreed the issues had been narrowed.

Frankly, we common folk in America don’t care a darned who is to blame for the shutdown, as long as it doesn’t affect us directly. As long as commerce continues, we can still get a paycheck. But for those 800,000 government workers in D.C., it may be dicey. Yes, they will get paid – depending on at which department of government they work. My feeling is that there will always be jobs these D.C. workers could do in America if they truly wanted to find work.

Why don’t we permanently furlough half of those 800,000 workers? It would mean they would have to go on unemployment compensation, which was extended to almost two years by our socialistic president, Barak Obama, a few months ago. There are many people who won’t even think about going back to work because they have the unusual comfort of knowing the Federal Government will pay them to stay home.

I advise folks on employment matters from time to time. I have personally found that extending the unemployment comp to 99 weeks was the dummest thing we’ve ever done. After being unemployed for two years, many people get the welfare hangover mentality and they don’t ever want to go back to work. Some of them will retrain for better jobs and go back to work. Many more won’t. Just because they can’t find work in the same job they had before they were laid off is no reason for American’s at work to continue footing the unemployment benefits for those who won’t go back to work.

We must definitely shorted this time back to either the original six weeks unemployment or at least to three months or so. That would put some urgency into the unemployed. Right now many are holding out, and they won’t go back to work until their benefits peter out. Good luck. There’s a new budget cutting wind blowing in Congress. Those with the above mentality should go out immediately and take the best job hey can find, rather than being forced into something they won’t be satisfied with later.
