Greetings From Beauvoir!
They celebrated the 200th anniversary of the Jefferson Davis home on June 3, 2008, three days ago, in Biloxi, MS.
Many individuals continue to offer their help. However, the only volunteers needed at this time are highly specialized and trained conservators and some grounds maintenance volunteers. Anyone else that wishes to volunteer their help at this time can help the most by making a financial contribution (see financial contribution address below). No donation is too large or too small. Every little bit helps to keep Beauvoir going and for rebuilding, so please give generously.
On February 10, 2007, the Beauvoir Combined Board approved a new five year Master Plan to rebuild the Beauvoir site, bigger and better than it was before Hurricane Katrina struck Beauvoir. Details of the plan can be found here: http://www.beauvoir.org/indexOld.html
Great news from the restoration! The restoration is complete and everything is about like it was during the great days of the South.
Last to be completed and painted was the picket fence that frames this magnificent ancient American landmark. The fence was installed in front of Beauvoir and on the west side.
Work has also been completed on the Hayes Cottage and the Library Cottage, and even the cistern was rebuilt.
The old Hospital slab has been removed and demolition of the old Presidential Library and Museum continues.
We are waiting on MEMA and FEMA to approve the the new Jefferson Davis Presidential Library and Museum.
